Metabo Battery Technology – Performance that impresses.
Metabo Battery Technology
Performance starts with the battery pack. We are constantly developing new technologies to optimise performance, runtime and service life, and to offer you the ideal battery pack for every application - whether it's LiPower, LiHD or LiHDX. No compromises - powerful enough to easily rival corded machines. That's Metabo battery pack technology.
What makes Metabo Battery Technology so unique
Three good reasons why our battery packs are perfect for your work.
We know that demanding tasks require maximum power to achieve perfect results. By incorporating revolutionary Tabless technology into our LiHDX cordless battery packs, we make this possible for you. Up to 85 per cent longer battery life1 ensures you can keep going and reach your goal faster with LiHDX - without too many interruptions.

FAQs
The Metabo LiHDX battery offers high performance, longer runtime and short charging times for demanding tasks with 18V cordless tools. Tabless technology ensures that energy can flow more efficiently through the battery pack and is available more reliably under heavy loads. This makes LiHDX batteries particularly suitable for applications such as sanding, impact driving, drilling or sawing. The Metabo 18V cordless system offers a choice of two variants: the compact LiHDX 4.0 Ah for handy tasks and the LiHDX 8.0 Ah for longer jobs with higher energy requirements.
Metabo's LiHDX battery delivers more power because Tabless technology improves the flow of current within the battery pack. Put simply: there are fewer bottlenecks inside the battery cells, meaning that energy can be transferred more efficiently to Metabo cordless tools. As a result, the battery heats up less under heavy load and can maintain a consistent level of performance for longer. This is particularly helpful when cordless tools draw a lot of power over a prolonged period - for example, when cutting through hard materials, drilling large-diameter holes or carrying out work requiring high torque. In certain heavy-duty applications, a LiHDX 8.0 Ah battery pack can deliver up to 100 per cent more performance than a LiHD 8.0 Ah battery pack, thanks to lower internal heat build-up.
LiHDX battery packs from the Metabo cordless system are particularly suitable for tasks where a cordless tool needs to draw a lot of power over a long period or is operating under heavy load. Typical examples include cutting through thick materials, drilling large-diameter holes, demanding screwdriving tasks or prolonged use of energy-intensive machines. The LiHDX 8.0 Ah battery pack is the right choice when long runtime and high power reserves are the priority. The LiHDX 4.0 Ah battery pack is particularly suitable when the cordless tool needs to remain manoeuvrable - for example, in confined spaces, when working overhead or when frequently changing position.
Yes, LiHDX, LiHD and LiPower battery packs are all compatible with Metabo 18V tools and chargers within the 18-volt class. Anyone who already uses Metabo 18V cordless tools can use the LiHDX battery packs with their existing 18V tools and chargers. Furthermore, like all 18V Metabo battery packs, LiHDX battery packs are part of CAS, the cross-brand Cordless Alliance System. This means that Metabo battery packs can also be used with 18V tools and chargers from other CAS brands. For users, this means greater flexibility, fewer different types of battery packs to manage, and simpler organisation in their day-to-day work.
Tabless technology ensures that current can flow more efficiently within the battery pack. In conventional lithium-ion cells, so-called tabs are connected to the positive and negative terminals. During high power output, these tabs can act as bottlenecks and increase internal resistance. In Tabless battery packs, such as Metabo's 18V LiHDX batteries, these bottlenecks are significantly reduced. This enables the battery to utilise its energy more effectively under high loads, remain thermally more stable and deliver longer runtime as well as shorter charging times. A Metabo 18V battery pack with Tabless technology is particularly beneficial for users when cordless tools need to deliver reliably high performance over extended periods.
LiPower, LiHD and LiHDX are three cordless battery packs within the Metabo cordless system, designed to meet different requirements. With up to 1,000 watts, LiPower is suitable for all-round tasks, such as light screwdriving, short assembly jobs or applications where a particularly lightweight battery pack is important. LiHD covers power ranges up to 1,500 watts and is ideal for longer jobs, frequent drilling or cutting, as well as cordless tools with higher power requirements. LiHDX utilises tabless technology, delivers up to 1,800 watts and is ideal when tools need to draw high power for extended periods or even briefly, such as during large-diameter drilling, high-torque work or intensive use.
The right Metabo battery pack depends on the tool, the application and your preferred handling. For short jobs, light screwdriving tasks or mobile assembly work, a compact, lightweight LiPower battery pack may be the right choice. If you work with cordless tools more frequently and need longer runtime or more power, a high-capacity LiHD battery pack is worth considering, as it is suitable for a wide range of applications - the 5.5 LiHD delivers the highest possible power output in this range. LiHDX battery packs are the right choice for heavy-duty applications: the LiHDX 4.0 Ah battery pack is the ultimate lightweight option for manoeuvrable work, whilst the LiHDX 8.0 Ah battery pack offers high performance for long jobs with high energy requirements.
Metabo uses an 18V cordless system in which compatible battery packs, chargers and cordless tools within the 18-volt class can be combined. In addition, Metabo is part of CAS, the Cordless Alliance System. CAS is a multi-brand cordless system in which batteries and chargers are compatible with over 50 brands and more than 500 tools. For users, this means that a Metabo 18V battery pack can be used not only with compatible Metabo cordless tools, but also with many tools from other CAS brands. This reduces the number of different battery packs and chargers required, keeps your equipment more organised, and allows existing battery packs to be used more flexibly in day-to-day work.
How long a Metabo battery pack lasts on a single charge depends on the tool, the material, the application and the workload. An important benchmark is the energy stored in the battery pack: the LiHDX 8.0 Ah battery offers 144 Wh and is designed for long periods of use with high energy demands. In certain heavy-duty applications, it achieves up to 85 per cent longer runtime compared to the LiHD 8.0 Ah, because the Tabless technology lowers the internal resistance of the cells and reduces heat build-up. This means more of the battery pack's energy can be utilised during demanding tasks. The compact LiHDX 4.0 Ah battery pack offers 72 Wh and, in certain extreme applications, achieves up to twice the runtime compared to the LiHD 4.0 Ah. The service life of Metabo battery packs is supported by intelligent battery management, electronic individual cell monitoring during charging, and processor-controlled charging and discharging management. In addition, all Metabo cordless batteries and chargers come with a 3-year warranty, regardless of the number of charge cycles. With the ASC 290 rapid charger, LiHDX battery packs can be charged in a maximum of 30 minutes.
Metabo cordless battery packs and chargers do not need to be registered separately to qualify for the 3-year warranty. The warranty applies automatically to all Metabo batteries and chargers - regardless of the number of charge cycles. This also applies to LiHDX battery packs such as the LiHDX 4.0 Ah and the LiHDX 8.0 Ah. For users, this means that when purchasing a Metabo cordless battery or a Metabo cordless battery starter set with a charger, no additional online registration of the battery pack is required. However, please retain your proof of purchase so that warranty or service claims can be clearly identified. Separate service and warranty conditions apply to tools, which should be considered independently of the cordless battery warranty.
