Metabo sells LUREM in France

NĂ¼rtingen, July 2010.  Metabo is selling the specialists for stationary wood processing machinery, LUREM which has its headquarters in Domfront, France, to the Belgian company DB&S Machines. LUREM currently employs around 100 people and recently generated sales of around 10 million euros. DB&S wants to keep all of the employees, thus selling the company will not result in lost jobs. "LUREM no longer fits into our new strategic orientation. We are concentrating fully on power tools and tools for mobile as well as semi-stationary use and on our core target groups, the metal and construction industries", explains Horst W. Garbrecht, chairman of the board at Metabo. "The decision to let our French subsidiary go is a logical consequence of the consistent implementation of the strategy", adds Andreas Georgiadis, financial director of Metabo. "With this move we have achieved another important milestone in the restructuring of the company has already been started. Among the parties interested in the company, DB&S was far and away the most desirable candidate because the presentations of the management of DB&S convinced us. In this way, we are able to offer the company, and the people that work for it, optimum prospects for the future." Non-disclosure has been agreed with regard to the selling price.

The company DB&S Machines was founded in 1995 and is, even now, primarily known to the market as a international trader of professional and industrial machinery, including their own brand HOLZTECH. The company has however been developing their own CNC machines with multiple axes for six years. These high-performance machines are currently manufactured under license and sold, for the most part, to customers in the Benelux countries. "Taking over LUREM is a great and important step on the way to enhancing our trade competence by means of the knowledge and expertise of a manufacturer.

We want to expand the position of LUREM in the important French market long-term. Our aim is to expand the product ranges to include new sectors of the market. In addition, as internationally active traders we have the network and contacts necessary to open up new markets outside France to LUREM" explains Jan De Brabander, CEO of DB&S.
